The department started as a single unit in 1999 and has evolved to two units now. It has a history of sustained development, with a progressive increase in patients, both for outdoor and indoor patients. All major surgeries including Laparoscopic ones are routinely performed by an experienced team of senior faculty members in co-operation with dynamic and totally committed junior faculties.

Latest armamentarium including patient monitors, C-arm and Doppler monitors are available in the four Operation Theaters, maintaining stringent sterility protocols. Serious post operatives are cared for in the Surgical ICU.

Medical student training, as well as interns training is imparted by a dedicated faculty who expose to global standards of teaching, including seminars, tutorials, demonstrations ( including audiovisual display of live surgeries). Care is taken that students don’t neglect the art of discipline while imbibing the scientific part of the specialization. Stone ( gall bladder & kidney), prostate, gastric and various complicated surgeries as well as a patient friendly approach, by the entire surgical team, has classified the dept. “For All in Nepal”.
