• Department of CTVS has started in 2010 under Prof. Dr. D. Jayapal Reddy
• First Mch (CTVS) resident was enrolled in 2010 and has graduated in 2013.
• At the moment, Department has one Associate Prof. Dr Kaushal K Tiwari, one Assistant Prof. Dr K G Shrestha and Mch Resident Dr Bijay Sah (Second year).
• Department is equipped with state-of-art Operating theater, modern Heart Lung Machine (Maquet HL 20), Heater Cooler console (HCU 40), IABP machine (CS 100), ACT machine, two Temporary pacemakers (Medtronic), Internal defibrillator, external defibrillator and Olympus fiber optic bronchoscope.
• First open heart surgery, first time outside of capital, was performed on 10th Dec 2014. Mr Satyanarayan Ram, 35 y.o., male patient from Kalaiya-4, Bara, Nepal, was operated for ASD closure. He was discharged on 10th postoperative day and he is under regular follow up. He is doing well. After that we have operated 8 different open heart surgeries.
• From the establishment of the department, 5200 surgeries have been done. Out of it, 2500 major cardiothoracic and vascular surgeries, and 2700 minor surgeries. Department has performed 1300 Emergency surgeries during this period.
