The Department of Community Medicine was established since the inception of the College Medical Sciences, Bharatpur, Nepal. From the very beginning fully qualified and experienced teaching faculty and other staff was sufficient to teach and train the medical students. Building of the department is sufficient for teaching and training the students along with ample equipments, a well informative Museum, departmental library and well developed Biostatistical unit. Community Medicine is a conglomeration of several disciplines spread over basic and clinical sciences. The teaching starts from 1st semester and continues up to VIITh semester according to the Kathmandu University curriculum through didactic lectures, seminars using audiovisual aids available in the department, Tutorials, Group discussion, Practical and Field posting. The interns undergo training in the department during which they are posted in field practice area Aptari and Rural Health Training Centre, Devghat to manage day to day health problems of the community and to provide primary health care. The interns are involved in various research projects on topics of latest public health importance.
