Department of Anaesthesia


It is nearly 20 years, the Department of Anaesthesia came into existence in College of Medical Sciences. Twenty years ago COMS started with undergraduate studies and today bloomed from small make shift structure to present sprawling  building of multisuperspecialty hospital. Thanks to the leadership, foresight and devotion of our young director of COMS; and desire to grow under many obstacles and criticism. The department of Anaesthesiology is expanding its knowledge base, skills, new technology, new pharmacological agents to meet the need of the time and to provide safe perioperative anaesthetic practice and ICU care.

This institute started MD Anaesthesia program in 2008. Since then COMS had produced 8 anesthesiologist, who are practicing inside the country, mostly in Kathmandu in different institutions making us proud. COMS Operation Theaters are well equipped with modern anesthesia machines, monitors , central gas supply and other essential emergency equipments and a competent anesthesiologists behind , insuring safety of the patient.

Department of Anesthesia is mannered by adequate highly qualified anesthesiologist, well trained nurses and paramedical staffs. There are 10 major state-of art operation theaters in the hospital complex one is located in the causality complex to deal with major emergencies and trauma cases, and one is located in the obstetric and gynecology department to deal with obstetric and gynecological emergences. Operation theater complex is well organized with ideal administrative and operational structure to improve this efficiencies of the surgeons, Anesthesiologist, other operation room assistants and also patients safety. There is an on-site pharmacy located inside the operations theatre complex. All types of surgeries (laparoscopic and arthroscopic surgeries) are carried out in this hospital under varies types of anesthesia.

All operation theaters have central supply pipe line for N2O, O2 compressed air, and vacuum.

All Operation theatres are equipped with advanced ………….. system (invasive and non invasive) and advanced Anesthetic machines.

The department of anesthesia gives 24 hrs cover to all routine and emergency cases operated in the operations theater, emergencies in the causality department and intensive care unit. Apart from this, we are also involved in under Graduate teaching programs.

Dr.Sanjay Paudel has completed his MBBS from KU and did his post graduate course MD (Anesthesiology) from TU in the year 2015.  He has attended training in ultrasound guided regional anesthesia under NYSORA, USA and did training in basic ultrasound FAST and Obstetrics scanning conducted by Hands for Humanity, USA. He also attended ACLS/BLS Training.

Dr.Kriti Devkota had completed her MBBS Program from Dhaka University in the year  2013 and did her post graduate course in MD (Anesthesiology) from the prestigious Institute of Medicine, TUTH, Kathmandu  in the year 2018.  She has also completed the training in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), ACLS, BLS conducted by the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH).  She has acquired advanced knowledge and skills  in performing Ultrasound guided Regional Anesthesia .

He has also completed the training in Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) conducted by the Resurge International in the year 2018.  He has acquired advanced knowledge and skills  in performing Ultrasound guided Regional Anaesthesia .

Dr.Rajesh Kumar Yadav has completed his MBBS from this Institution under Kathmandu University and did his post graduate course in MD (Anesthesiology & Critical Care Medicine) from B.P.Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS), Dharan in the year 2007. He was also trained in various other reputed international institutions like Vijaya Heart Foundation, Institute of International Cardiology & Cardiac Surgery, Chennai in the year 2010, Visiting Foreign Researcher at Aichi Medical University, Japan in the year 2015 and also Guest Scientist at Graz Medical University, Austria in the year 2017.
